  • Perfect day, cloudy with slight rain at times
  • Dan got a nice Smallmouth close to shore on the 4" Worm. He fished it slow and wacky style.
  • AL and Pete next to the Lund at the ramp. This super 16.75' boat sports a 50HP 2 stroke ETec, and 9.9 Honda 4 Cycle kicker. For this lake though we could only use the Motorguide 43LB electric.
  • Dan bringing in a Smallmouth Bass
  • Another pic of Dan's Smally
  • AL finally!! Brings one in. He used a 4" worm for this one.
  • Pete brings in a Largemouth that he caught with a 5" worm fished Texas rig style.
  • Too bad we could not use our Honda 9.9 4 cycle!
  • Working the Eastern shoreline of trees and rocks
  • AL is determined to hook one up by trying the deep side!
  • Working the East shoreline heading North
  • AL and Pete looking for more hits!
  • Sonar shows fish, Pete and Dan both hook up!
  • One of the two that Pete and Dan hooked
  • Another view, see Pete's in the background
  • Heading over to the Western Shorline
  • Fish over structure. Mostly on East side of lake

LOCATION: Echo Lake Reservoir, NJ

SMALLMOUTH BASS FISHING TRIP

Air Temp: - 80 degrees
Water Temp: 78 degrees
Weather: Moderate to consistent wind from the North.
Water Quality: Clear
Baits Used: Soft plastic worms and tubes
Rods: 7'2" medium fast tip spinning & baitcaster rods
Reels: Spinner and Baitcaster Reels
Line: 8lb to 10lb mono, 12lb braid with 15lb fluro leader

This is a gorgeous reservoir with really good structure along the shorelines and reservoir bottom. Both smallmouth and largemouth bass can be caught here and we caught both. On this trip we found the soft plastic worms worked best and we hooked these wacky and Texas rigged style. No weight was used on either which is our preferred set up for just about every place we fish.

The boat ramp here is a little primative so bring wading boots if you intend launching a boat. It does have parking for a boat trailer and a short concrete pad. The pad does not stretch very far from shore which is why we suggested you bring boots. Also, this is an electric trolling motor only lake and you need permits to fish and park.

This reservoir is restricted for use by the Newark Water Authority. Permits for boats and fishing are required. Electric trolling motors only.
