  • Powered boats are not permitted (no electric either) on this water so our boats are left chained to a tree year round. The Rangers will steam clean your boat and license it for this purpose. Both steps are mandatory to put a boat on this reservoir. You will also be given a specific location to keep it.
  • We have used this Bleeding Shad Rat-L-Trap lure many times for Stripe Bass on the Hackensack River with much success. And while this was not the FIRST time it was used on this reservoir, the Smally's just "HAMMERED" it over, and over this time the whole day!
  • When fishing with the Rat-L-Trap lure we used a 7ft medium light bait caster or equivalent spinning rod, and a smooth casting reel. Line used was 15lb braid with a 12lb fluro leader. We always use a leader cut 6ft to 8ft because this water is very clear and the braid might spook the fish.
  • This Smallmouth Bass spit the Rat-L-Trap lure right at the boat! It always amazes me that these fish can spit super sharp treble hooks that this lure sports.
  • This is another Smally that slammed this bait the minute it hit the water! The majority of our fish were caught well offshore in 8ft of water on average.
  • This is probably fish number 30 for the day that was caught on this lure! We found the best approach for this particular bait was to let it sink to the bottom, then bring it back moderately fast, or just fast enough to get the rattles to make noise.
  • AL 'Set the HOOK" brings in a Smallmouth Bass on a 3.8 in plastic swimbait, but he switched to the Rat-L-Trap when he saw me and Pete bring in the numbers!
  • I no sooner unhooked a fish from this lure, casted it back out on the water and half a retrieve later it got hammered again!!
  • You can check out a large selection of these fabulous lures at the Rat-L-Trap website
  • MANUFACTURERS... We can put your sport fishing products in front of thousands of targeted eyeballs for a fraction of the cost you would normally spend to do this!

Grap a cup of coffee, sit back and relax, and watch a couple of great videos of the bass action we got on the Rat-L-Trap Lures.

We hit this reservoir every year without fail, especially during late spring when the Smallmouth Bass come up out of the deep water to spawn. There are other species of fish here too, Lake Trout, Pike, and some Largemouth Bass. We do not target these fish as our preference is the heavy fighting "Smally".

We always try several different lures (metal, plastics, crank baits) and tackle combinations on this water to see what works the best overall. And after numerous casts and bait changes we found the Smallmouth to prefer a lure that stayed below the surface at approxiately 4ft to 8ft and that made some noise.

Rat-L-Trap LuresWe have made many, many trips to this reservoir and were surprised that the Smally's only went for the Rat-L-Trap on a consistent level. This particular lure is a "go to" lure for us when targeting BASS... both fresh and salterwater, and so it should not have surprised us that when everything else failed to produce a strike, this lure consistently caught the numbers of fish we were hoping for.

We suspect that the exteme winter up here this year is delaying the spawning habits of this fish, and they only reacted to a bait that they could HEAR and the Rat-L-Trap fit their feeding mood perfectly!

It just goes to show you... make sure you have different lure types in your box to get the bite!
